As you may know I am an active member of the Rotary Club of San Pedro and I am supporting our club's Community Reading Day this April.
This event will gather 150 of our most challenged local children between Pre-K and 4th Grade at our local branch of the Los Angeles Public Library. Our program will include an introduction to the Library and Library Cards for all, and an interactive presentation by children's authors Annabeth Bondor-Stone and Connor White. See a sample of their presentation here:
The author's book "Shivers" will be presented to each child for autographs at the end of the program. In addition, each child will receive a backpack with several age appropriate books to take home and own.
The parents and caregivers will be separately coached in a bilingual presentation on habits and tools to use at home to promote reading skills that are critical to the future success of these children.
We have successfully procured grants from Rotary and Barnes and Noble Booksellers. We are also raising money through small donations, and looking for volunteers to help on the event day, April 17 from 2 to 4 PM.
I invite you to join me in supporting this event with volunteer time and/or a small donation of $5 or $10, or whatever you feel comfortable contributing to this event. For more information or to volunteer or donate go to:
Thank you for taking a look.
